You will always pay a premium for their Branding which incur vast advertising costs and the over extravagance. There is obviously the snob value to wearing these products, showing social standing ie. Celebrities or royalty.
Most peoples perceptions of other branded fashion is on a downward scale according to price and what’s in !!
This always amazes me with fake branded clothing what is it trying to achieve, having gucci written on a basic T shirt defeats the point of Fashion, the name may be fashionable but the garment isn’t, it’s basic.

What is the label without the style?

With all brands they make styles that suit a type of person and sometimes styles don’t come out as well as they hope,
these styles usually find themselves into the SALE rail to clear, but again people buy them because they think they have a bargain but if the styles looks bad then that’s the look people buy at a cheap price, yes it may be “whatever” brand the label is firmly inside the garment. So buying branded clothing really has to be done with care, Remember it has to suit you first or it will be designer Brand that makes your wardrobe look cool…

Are the big names the best?

In my opinion as a designer, Retailer, and woman involved with the fashion industry.
I have seen many companies and designers out their that have the creative skills but without the massive advertising campaigns that come up with stunning designs for Womens fashion that although not recognised these garments rival many better known brands. The style at the end of the day is the most important thing where the garment will work with your figure and show it off with maximum effect. If you look good and what you wear suits you this will win hands down every time with getting recognition in a positive way.

Tips to knowing garment quality.

Materials are the first indication, people aren’t aware that even fabrics such as cotton’s or viscose come in different grades, viscose for example if it is cheap this is thin and if used without double lining will be transparent, hardly good for girls, a good grade will always cover with one single skin, this is the same with man made fibre materials. The use of chiffon or silk instead of man made mesh are also good indications. The finishing and defect’s will always give away if an item is poor, but the one thing most people do not consider is the fitting, a good fitting top takes a lot of work as it has to be adjusted many times during the sampling stage, some companies look for hanger appeal some companies put their efforts into fit.

High-street Brand Fashion.

Bringing fashion to the masses, these usually will be conservatively cut to appeal to a wider audience, they will be massed produced of acceptable Quality. Design and manufacture will be done by others, these stores simply buy designs in bulk.

Alternatives.

You can find small outlets out there that bring unusual fashion these usually support the smaller designers that need the most help, the irony of this is that those in these positions often have the most passion, Funding usually only comes through consistently bringing in new designs. Its worth using these outlets as they are a real alternative to the main (Big Business) brands, consider this if these smaller companies are driven
out then consumer choice diminishes.

1) Venues / going out

 1a) Clubbing ~  Known as clubwear used for these nights out on the town, would be clothing that are for the purpose of getting noticed. Usually with low bustlines and if you have the figure for it the will also be short like a mini dress.
 1b) Dinner / dance ~ Here you will be looking to wear the cocktail dress or long evening dresses a feel for a look that is stylish and classy.
 1c) Prom nights ~   Short for promenade, is used to describe a formal dance held at the end of an academic year, Evening dresses with lots of details that are elegant, these prom nights have become a huge hit here in the U.K and the night is is regarded by some high school students that the prom is the most romantic night of their lives. It is also regarded as an event  when a young girl changes to a young lady. Common prom activities include dining, dancing, the crowning of a prom King and Queen, and socializing so on such a special event this usually calls for that special Prom dress.
 1d) Work ~  Classic lines are usually required and dresses when worn would be just below the knee in length, Pencil dresses without fussy details are the usual desired look, also tailored trouser and blouses would be suitable in an office enviroment.
 1e) Ballroom ~  Summer balls, christmas balls, infact these dinner dance events are getting ever more popular probably due to the Celebrity programs such as Strictly come dancing or dancing with the stars, the dresses for these tend to be extravigant
   Ball gowns come in various styles usually long dresses with an aray of features.
 1f) Romantic evenings ~ That candle light dinner with the one you love, elegance and classy clothing which show your look is for his eyes only, This fashion will cover you not showing to much bust and not to much leg.
 1g) Holidays ~  Fun hot nights where you want to look good but stay cool at the same time, whatever your event on holiday the fabric your clothing are made from will be the most important factor. No girl likes to over heat, raising the temparture though
   is a completely different matter.
 1g) Casual every day ~ The clothing that is available is extensive but if you look around sometimes you can find clothing that crosses over that can also be worn out. Casual fashion doesn't have to be dull there are some sexy casual style out there.

 
3) Materials

 3a) Silk ~   Fine clingy material with very little stretch this fabric more associated with lingerie is good when used as a floaty parts of a dress rather than the main body.
 3b) Taffita ~  More often used in dresses or ball gowns, great for the bodice area or for corsets although heavy doesn't drape or flow.
 3c) Cotton ~  Great material for the use in summer or winter depending on the thickness. Viscose cotton is the finer fabric to use although its important that the retailer know's what grade this is. Thin grades can make clothing see through.
   1 -1 rib, 2-1 rib, 2-2 rib cotton are other grade's which work in different trypes of clothing.
 3d) Chiffon ~  Rarely used for the highstreet but more often used in boutique fashion as this material only has any stretch when cut on the bias, Woven high quality fabric and will usually be quite expensive. Floaty light fabric which is better when used in association with another fabric.
 3e) Soft touch ~  Great fabric for dresses as this has so much stretch, this can be patterned, feels great against ladies skin.
   Again different grades available and retailers should be aware that the cheaper versions can also be transparent.
 3f)  I.T.Y  ~  Poor quality fabric, cheap and nasty avoid at all costs.
 3g) Lace  ~  Laces are lovely they really usually hang well and most laces are stretchy, although try to avoid laces that
   have been massed produced to reduce costs, these will be used by companies that produce poor quality ladies clothing.
 3h) knitwear ~       To find a good style garment made in knitwear usually is quite hard, soft and comfortable if you find a style you like these are timeless.
